BLI Q2 opinions

Hi all,

I saw and played a bit with a fellow’s BLI Q2 on my local club’s layout, so I’m thinking of acquiring one after Christmas, if possible, and want to hear some opinions on the model, how you like the sound, running qualities, details etc. and any fixes you may have done to your own Q2s. I liked the sound more than many other steam engines I’ve listened too though I’m thinking I could swap the speakers for better ones. I didn’t like the way the blue LED looked, thinking I’ll try a golden white one (have the handy-dandy MR article somewhere) eventually. Plus love the idea of doing some weathering and detailing (my fave thing!).

Look forward to reading your responses.

I’ve got two, one from the first run and one from the second run. They are smooth runners and I like the sound although I do turn it down a bit so I can hear myself think. I’ve pulled 50 mixed freight cars behind one on level track. 50 cars is where I ran out of room, the engine didn’t run out of pulling power. I have not reset anything on it yet as it does creep along quite nicely at low speed and goes like a bat out of hell at step 128. That is something to watch out for as it takes several feet to come to a stop from that speed even with the controler back to zero. The only imperfection I’ve found is that the color of the side rods is somewhat spotty. It looks like they were dunked in some sort of blackening solution with out being cleaned first and some parts didn’t take the color. It’s minor and I don’t waste a lot of time worrying about. There is one other item that has me curious and that is the position of the rods. On the Q2 the front and rear engines are always in snyc while on my T1’s they can be 180 degrees different from each other. I’m still working on the layout so I haven’t had a chance to look into it. Hope some of this helps.
