information on THE BLUE COMET
The CNJ Blue Comets inaugurated February 21,1929 Heavyweight cars painted Royal Blue Jersey Cream and Packard Blue. The two Pacifics assigned to the Blue Comets were painted Royal Blue and Packard Blue to match the cars. A total of thirteen cars were repainted for the service Two Baggage Cars, Two Baggage 48-seat Smokers, six 64-seat coaches, one 36-seat Diner and two 48 - seat Observations. The Dining car operated from New York in the morning and returned in the evening the other daily trains operated without a diner. Operated between New York and Atlantic City 135 miles two round trips daily. The train was discontinued during the Great Depression and was never reinstated. Many people talke about the train for years after it had been discontinued but reinstatement was out of the question.
In addition each car was named after a comet which is why the train got its name. The cars were available a few years ago in HO but I had to build my own engine to complete the set. A few of the real cars are still in New Jersey and are in good condition.
