Thanks for sharing your information and educating me, I will keep with wholesale trains due to a really good price. These items are not a must have or a life threatning matter so I will wait.
Thanks again

I’m still waiting on mine but got a better price than that so I will continue to wait.

I am still waiting for my big boy of course, but the BLI forums are not looking positive right now. Everyone is complaining about traction tires and wobbles. They say all blueline engines will have them and not have and extra driver set with no traction tires. I have never had any engines with traction tires and a little nervous. People on the forum stated they are going to cancel all blue line orders due to traction tires. Gosh this is nerve racking, i hope tony’s trains does a product review on this soon. Or someone do a product review.

I think you are getting scared by just a few voices. I’m among those who have raised the issue about traction tires and are considering cancelling some future Blueline purchases. But we are quite few that complain(we seems to like to say it so we post it in several threads). I’ve never said anything about the Blueline BB since I do now have nor will I ever. But your absolutely right that their is a lot of concern about the issue.

I just do not know enough about the traction tires and wonder how it will run. Hate to spend money one something that is not up to par. I just returned the MT-73 and just going to take a refund. We will see i guess. I will let you know how my big boy turns out if I ever get it.
My big boy from wholesale trains has shipped, it will be here on Tuesday. I hope the rest of you are getting yours also.

From what I have read, the wobble problem is the exception, not the normal. A couple of persons reported having that problem, but the ones I have are OK. They do not run super slow unless you have a decoder with back emf. \ After we installed the Zimo, it now runs like the Trix or PCM, very slow and smooth at less than 1 mph.
I was just mystified they would build it with two sets of traction tires on the heaviest locomotive in die cast metal I know of. The motor does stall when you hold the model back and it probably would burn out if that situation continued for any length of time. Probably even one set of traction tires would have the same effect on a model this heavy.
I prefer the PCM version with a little driver slip at the extreme length of 100 cars or more.
Thanks man for the info, I feel much better. I do have a decoder that has back EMF. So Tuesday I will install the decoder and follow the instructions on the BLI website to program. Hopefully this will go well.
I got my big boy finally and it runs great, the sound is very good and has some unique sounds that make it an excellent model. I am of course talking to myself but I am used to that [alien]. I installed the decoder and programed the model without errors. This engine is quite long and I am glad I spent the time on my track work to let large steam run freely.
GTX, I wouldn’t sweat over the traction tires. They do improve traction quite a bit, although I don’t see why they would be necessary on such a train. Marketing decision upstairs. I hear that Stewart Models has traction tires in many sizes, and BLI is sure to have plenty to send along as spares when people begin to ask for them.
Why is the minimum price for the Bigboy 200 something US dollars.[soapbox]

Mine didn’t come today… Probably tommorow. Tracking said it’s in my town though.
New haven, the big boys are diecast metal, which is a high price, quality motors, sound…
The lowest price is $260, and that is a heckuva bargain. If you want one, try a rivarossi/hornby.
Hoople, did you BB come today?
Nope… DHL is keeping it in it’s warehouse until it’s scheduled arrival, which is tommorow…
