Is this a good buy from Factory Direct Trains. The sale price seems to be very good. The question is . . . is this a good unit for DC operation , once I purchase their sound controller?
I bought 3 of them and the sound is GREAT even in DC mode. And they run good. I did discover one problem with them that I will relate in a private mail if you decide to buy. (and that problem is fixable by you).
You will need their controller to blow the horn and operate the bell only if you plan to operate solely in DC
I have one, and run it with DC - no optional sound module.
It runs well, but note that the start-up voltage is quite high compared to a loco without sound. I’d be interested in hearing from Railandsail what problem I should fix…

If you have no ‘visable’ problems with it, you have no problem. So don’t worry about it.
