I read the article on using blue foam for making buildings . I want to know how thick this foam is and can you use pink foam,foam core or gator board has sub structures jmozz

The pink foam is more ridged then the blue and generally comes in thicker sheet around 1 1/2 inches where as the blue is commonlly found in 3/4 of an inch thickness. both will work well providing you use a foam board adhesive, many construction adhesives will eat right throught it.
I did see an article on gator board in I belive model railroader but can’t rember if you can use it outside. I’ll check my back issues and report back.
i use 1/2 inch blue board for buildings, drop ceiling grid for windows an wooden stir sticks for vertical siding, an trim
I’ve found that there isn’t any noticeable difference in the blue and pink foam that I find in my area. I am on the cheap side so I check out any work site I see in the area and ask for their scrap pieces of foam. A couple of times there would be almost whole sheets thrown away.
I have been trying different ways to make stone work using foam and am trying to finish a page now on what I have been doing.
I will post a notice when I have it finished.

Jmozz, according to the article there are two types, gatorplast, and gatorfoam.
The author suggest using the gatorfoam only for outside structures.

Some people have used the white packing foam for buildings
that are ouiside.
I questioned the use of that type of foam. apparently with the proper finish its fine.
However you will need to build your buildings on a slate or similar base
so they dont blow away.

We built a via duct using white foam (5 laminated layers glued together) covered with concrete, has held up for around 4 years now - just need to patch up when a tree branch falls on the via duct.
