B'mann Industrial 2-6-0 mogul

Just received my 2-6-0 mogul and Aristo on-board Train Engineer. I’m going to install batteries but there is no spec provided with the engine telling me what the max track voltage is supposed to be.

Has anyone done this conversion? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Walt

Walt,
am just this afternoon installing R/C & batts into my Indy. I did the conversion on it from the recent GR mag, ie BH cab and tender, both shortened. The Bachmann locos will run happily up to 24v, with 18v a good optimum but I use 14.4v batt packs in my stuff, gives a good run time and a reasonable top speed. Have used as low as 7.6v batt packs, gives good slow speed for on/off switch type control.

Thanks Phil,

What is the mah rating of your battery pack (“AA” Nimh batteries are usually about 1500 mah) and how long can you run between recharging?

Walt

Walt, the batts I use are 1800mah, 12 of them per 14.4v pack, or 10 per 12v pack. I make my own packs up. I get a good solid 90 minutes constant running with a consist of 4-6 carraiges, minimal grades but a bunch of 8ft diam. curves. That’s on Annies, don’t know about the Indy yet. One of my batt Porters (Bachmann) will putter around for >2 hours.

you know how you are using 12 aa to power your trains, well i found a way to use your method with lithiom ion batteries (2240 mah each[:D][8D][:D] also each battery is 3.5 volts or somthing like that.[;)]

Explanation of how, Please[:D]

carpenter matt,

Whell this is the firsttime any one has ever asked me a question!

whell for my little Rc car i use two lithiom ion batteries placed in series. basicly you will need 5 lithium ion batteries for 21.6 volts of power. (not the power will be slightly higher when fully charged) you will need to intigrate a special chip (avalibule at batteryspace. com) to make sure you don’t run them under 3 volts.

I have a bachman spectrum mogul my self, but no sound unit. so the tender is empty. basicly you will need to take the plus end of each battery and attach it to the negative end of another battery. conect the two remaning wires to a removable clip so you can plug it into the engine or the charger. Simply the batteries are wired in series, taped to the tender, and attached to a removable clip. (like a 9.6 volt nicad rc car battery.)

before you get your hopes up, you will need a special charger that can charge that many batteries or buy more than one charger and have a connecter for every two batteries.

My last idea is to go to radio shack and buy a couple of AA holders(these batteries are AA size) and stick those in the tender. when the batteries run low, you take them out and place them in the charger.

The biggest draw back will be charge time!!!
To charge 2 batteries it takes 2 hours!!!

So if you want to install lithiumions in your tranes you can buy every thing you need @
www.bateryspace.com and www.radioshack.com

I Realy hope this helps!!!

i have an even better idea, buy the 7.4 volt battery pack with a charger, and another battery pack.
