BN/BNSF SW1500 all weather windows

The old BN/BNSF SW1500 had all weather windows covering the first three windows (1.st and 4.th windows are plated over).

I have some 3 window all weather windows from LifeLike engines but they are all to short and cover only 2 1/2 window of the Athearn SW1500 windows.

Is there a source of all weather windoes that correctly cover the front three windows of an H0 Athearn SW1500?

Try searching for ‘all weather windows’ at Walthers.com
You should find some there if they exist.

Or search google and include ‘walthers’ as a key word.

Did that already. They have some that might match in N scale…

MLE scale models makes a three-pane all-weather window out of etched metal that’s pretty nice. I can’t say for sure how it fits a SW1500, though.

Have a look at Athearns’ recent parts listings. They have(or will have) a larger all-weather window. I noticed this right after I cut two Proto 2000 windows to make the longer window I needed on my UP S2 switcher

Check Details West and Detail Associates, they may have what you are looking for under a different name - look at the images

Thanks a lot for the three very helpful hints.

Looks like MLE is not availible now, Atheran parts looks great but shipping and tax is to much ($150 for four sets). The Walthers search by photo is very helpful but had no results.

I will go with the “home made” solution (thanks binder001!) and build my own from LifeLike windows.

Thanks again for your help.

… same time later …

Old eyes and rusty fingers are not made for precise made small windows :frowning: Have two from Athearn on order. €40 plus €40 shipping and tax …

Before Detail Associates offered their all-weather cab windows, I created my own from scraps of Plexiglas, as shown on this Atlas SD35:

After cutting and filing it to shape, the outline of the windows’ glass areas were scribed with a knife, then the “metal” parts were painted using a small brush.

I’ve seen those on SOO, GN, NP, MILW, and GTW Units.

What was the purpose of the weather window?

The engineer could open the side window and still had weather protection while looking along the train. You will find it mostly in the North with rough weather.

The Athearn 3 window all weather windows arrived today.

They fit the BN / BNSF SW1500. One set consits of 6 windows.
