I have several Atlas BN engines that I have picked up through collection buying and they are in excellent condition except…for the handrails.
There are GP’s and U whatevers and they have both green and black handrails on them so I am confused here.
My questions is…are the handrails on BN units supposed to be green or black, or did they use both? I’m still at a loss as to how people can destroy a set of handrails on a locomotive but that’s another topic.
Thanks for any info you can provide.

Mark,
Original deliveries to BN were painted as follows:
EMD - Black handrails with white safety paint in the ends. Number boards - white numbers on black background.
GE - Cascade Green handrails with white safety paint on the ends. Number boards - black numbers on white. This varied, and I suspect BN kept trying to get white numbers on a black background but gave up after a while.

Thanks for the info here Jim, I appreciate it very much as I need to order the handrails for these units and wanted to get them “right” from the “getgo”.
Thanks again, Mark
