I was looking for a quick loco project last week, so I decided to update my P2K BN GP30 to the timescale I am modelling - the early 1990’s.
There’s not much to remove, apart from the small fan, nose and classification lights. there’s also a few detailling bits to add. Here’s how it went.
First the removal of the unwanted details.

The loco was quickly repainted and re-detailled.

Finally, a couple of shots in action on the test track.

This has been an interesting little conversion for little outlay - the plough was from a bag of add-ons from another P2K loco and the electrical cabinet air filter box was made from some scrap plastic.
I now have a reasonable representation of a new class of loco[^]

Cool engine! Even though I don’t model BN or BNSF this would be a neat project!
That looks amazing!!! I might have to try that someday. Great way to add variety to my fleet, when I get the money and time.
Looks good Jon, many happy runs with it. Always good to have variety on your roster.
can you custom do conversions for people i have a gp30 i want in gp39 can you do the conversion???
Daniel
i got bored once and did a BN GP39E that was built from a former SOU high nose GP30. one of these days i’ll actually fini***he paint and decals [:D] i really messed up the paintjob so I am probibly going to strip and redo it.

these units had the GP30 cab remobed and recieved a regular EMD cab with some other detail changes. here are some in progress photos:
