BN motorized van/inspection car by Bachmann

I was wondering when Bachmann offered and at what price the BN track inspection van was?

I see it also runs on the track too.

Looking for some info on them.

I know it was offered in their “Tracksters” line of Hi-Rail vehicles. They are currently not in production. But are fairly frequent in their apperances on E-bay. However, if you want it to run well, you are probably going to have to remotor it some how as the two that I have seen run, were very herky-jerky in their operation. I remember theri being offered the Van in BN, A Box Truk in Amtrak, a Pickup in Conrail, and a Bus in Union Pacific. I have also seen pictures of a 1950s station Wagon that was offered at one time in the “Tracksters” line, but have no other information on it.

The one that I own is no longer operational. And using the term “operational” for these is a bit of a stretch. Problems I observed with mine were: too light, open frame low quality motor, brass wheelsets that oxided VERY quickly, and brass wipers (ditto). [2c}

All that being said, I still have mine, however, I’ve converted it to a static Great Northen MOW truck. Little bit of paint, couple of details, new wheels/tires, decals, Poof! Makes a nice truck. And cheaper then some custom high detail kits out there. [tup]

I have seen people repower these with HO slot cars motors but I wasn’t convinced that it made that much of a difference in their operating qualities. A possible better power sorce would be the spectrum fairmont and ballast regulators they are making better quality power sorce and I’m guessing that you could put the fairmont gangcars power into the van body.
