BN rolling stock

What other road names would you see running on BN freight trains in the early 1990’s other than BN? I want a little variety in my trains so I am not necessarily stuck running solid-BN trains all the time.
Thanks,
Reed

The BN was so wide spread that nearly any other railroad’s cars would have been seen on it, including Canadian and Mexican railroads. Get a railroad map of the BN in your era and note what railroads it connected with – any of those would be good candidates for interchange. And of course the predecessor railroads should be represented too: CB&Q, Northern Pacific, Great Northern, SP&S, Frisco, and so on.

You wouldn’t by any chance know where I could find a map of the Railroads of the early 1990s that labels all the lines with their respective owners, would you? I’ve been trying to locate one for a long time.
Thanks,
Reed

Hello,

I have seen BN Maps on EBAY from time to time. Years agao I called all the railroads and they sent me a bunch of stuff free. Not sure how nice they are these days.

I have a mixed freight car collection that I run with my BN.

Mostly, BN and what came before it. GN,NP,CBQ,SPS,Frisco and some other roads.

I buy what I like and mix it up or a grain unit train or container/piggy back.

Regards,

Mark

P.S. Your layout looks really cool.

Thanks. I have actually been having trouble getting to work on it since it is at my fathers house and I only go there every other weekend. Oh well.

Virtually any car could be on the BN. Now if you narrow it down to a specific area, you could get a more specific answer (such as between to stations or a specific subdivision or branch). But just generic BN then any car built since about 1960.

I grew up with CB&Q abd then BN track in my backyard. What really stands out in my memory besides Burlington and Great Northern are Rock Island, and Milwaukee Road. This line was located in Northeast Mo. Hope this helps.
