Hey, guys I am going to scratch build or kitbash a BN TEBUC6. I’m a pennsy guy but I think it would be fun to build a few. If anyone could get me info, technical drawings, measurements, or good detail shots and roster shots. Mike Thanks ahead of time.
BN’s TEBC6’s are slug units. They are basically SD9s with a cut down carbody and an SW14 type cab. (Cab looks like it was from an SW14 that IC had rebuilt.) The unit is 14’ 10" high. They are mated with an SD38-2 for power. Two were built with dynamic brakes. All that were built are in service with BNSF.
Here is a side view:
One with dynamic brakes:
That seems understandable, all 11 were “built” by VMV. They must have acquired IC/ICG’s drawings along with the buildings.
For use on the Tulsa Hump.
I wondered where them units would be at.
BN intended to use them at Cherokee Yard.
I guess they could be anywhere now. (Except here.)
Any rationale as to why 2 have dynamic brakes and 2 don’t (Didn’t all of BNSF’s SD-9’s originally have dynamic brakes)?..and why would you need dynamic brakes in a hump yard setting anyway?
So, my best bet is to get a SD9 frame and motor. Then build the rest around that. Mike
The 2 TEBC6 (out of 11) with dynamics were for the Tulsa hump, which is on a down grade. The 2 SD38P locomotives they were mated to also had DBs.
Are the fuel tanks on the slugs ballested or do they carry fuel and transfer to the mother. It looked like one of the pictures showed fuel dribble down the tank.
