Is the BNSF 8213 an SD75M? Or is it an SD75MAC. On my Athearn Model it says:SD75MAC. So is it AC or DC. No not the band AC/DC. LOL. Even though AC/DC ROCKS.
Its an SD75M. Misprint on the label. Thats kind of cool actually.
If I remeber correctly the error is on the prototype and Athearn faithfully reproduced it. I wouldnot have expected this level of detail but there it is. Quite impressive.
I think someone would have noticed the lack of AC inverters and that the frame is shorter at the end of the radiators than the MACs?
EMD didn’t get around to upping the SD70MAC’s HP from 4,000 to 4,300 until they came up with engines for CSX with flared radiators in 2003. And 4,300 is the default rating for the SD70ACe and SD70M-2.
Someone would notice that in the paint shop? - They grab a stencil and use it. If they happened to be painting a lot of SD70MAC units, They probably just cut a SD75MAC(it seemed logical to them). I have seen rebuild GP35’s stenciled with GP38 lettering on the frames…
