What was wrong with the Burlington Northern?

So which predecessor side of the merger did Ice come from: BN or SF? If the latter, how does that bode for getting the railroad a real name, i.e. Santa Fe? If the former I’d guess not well!

The comments so far seem to overlook the most important part of the article: Mr. Buffett on behalf of himself and his investors, being the owners, are extremely pleased with BNSF’s performance and being true to their word are apparently keeping BNSF’s well-regarded management team in place, with Mr. Ice and Mr. Rose both taking logical next steps. Evidently the acronym ‘BNSF’ hasn’t impaired the company’s performance one iota. Otherwise, management or the owners would be taking corrective action.

No body ever called the ATSF the Atchison Topeka . . .

Regarding a ‘real’ name for the BNSF, I’m willing to bet that if a poll were taken ‘SANTA FE’ would win, hands down!!!

BNSF is ok with me. Stock brokers used to refer to the Atchison and railroaders to the Q. My stock broker referred to the Burlington, which was accurate for all her life. I am outgrowing both “Big Nothing” and “Big New Santa Fe.”
