BNSF, Canadian National bring special trains to Super Bowl

The railroads that didn’t show probably realized what the Super Bowl really is. Almost non-stop big name consumer advertising that just happens to have a football game as a side-show. Meanwhile, they have railroads to operate. Freight railroads that don’t make any contact with the average low-informed American.

Anyone have any pictures?

Missing from the posting were pictures and any mention of who visited the trains. Were they open to the public? Or intended for a chosen few? What was their stated purpose in being there? Questions, questions that Trains doesn’t answer.

Obviously CSX doesn’t share your views Jeffery. Since they run ads all the time.

“…but railroads have already begun entertaining customers…” I think most of us here got it that BNSF and CN were impressing their shipping customers, not the general public, with these trains. It’s called marketing, a healthy capitalist activity. As for the other roads serving NOLA that didn’t bring in their business trains, only they would know why not. But what do I know? I’m just an average, ill informed American schmoe.

Ok Jeffery, Can’t we just enjoy the country’s most popular team sport, do some partying, have some fun, and try to forget the crappy economic condition this country is in. Go out and have some fun !!!

It probably depends on the sports preference of the top executives of the railroad. For example, CSX brought their business train to the Chicago area last summer for the week-long Ryder Cup golf tournament.

BNSF brought in 13 cars on a special train from Topeka and three cars from California on the SUNSET. CN brought one E-unit and one CN car in on a freight train and three ex-IC cars in on the CITY OF NEW ORLEANS. These trains aren’t there to impress the public, they’re used to entertain people who are already friends of the railroad. BNSF, IC, and KCS all had trains here for the 2002 game, and they were 18 private cars.

I remember the days, when I first started as passenger clerk in Chicago for PRR in 1966-67, all the special trains that operated in for events such as Kentucky Derby, Indy 500, Mardi Gras, and for the World Series. Really amazing, but of course a lot more equipment and railroads in existance then.

I am glad to see the BNSF and the CN chose to entertain their shipping users…good business practice. I just wish for the railroads that such activity boosts revenue. Was Warren Buffet there on the BNSF tain from Topeka?

Any photos?
