BNSF conductor saves dog from trestle

Restoring my faith in humanity a little bit.

WHAT A GREAT STORY JUST GOES TO SHOW HOW DEDICATED AND HONEST RAILROAD EMPLOYEES ARE AND CAN BE. THEY WILL ALSO GO OUT OF THEIR WAY. Both employees should get some type of award or recognition for going out of their way…

Awesome!

Good story!!!

Such a great story. The conductor and engineer should be recognized for what they did.

I love doggies! Hooray for Jazzi! Long live the BNSF and their conductors! Choo-choo.

Amen!

The set-up brakeman running our local freight as conductor perfectly set up maximum money/minimum on-duty time conditions.
“highball, Let’s go home,” and when I turned the head light to “BRIGHT” the little, short- legged, long-bodied, blondie dog ran away between our Niles Sub rails.
It didn’t turn left or right at Nursery crossing…right over it and full-speed east between the rails.
Two switches, at the west and east ends of the Niles Yard were hurdles in this dog olympics.
Pitch-dark, the head-light let us see this dog head out onto the Alameda Creek bridge and it fell (its legs fell) between the ties of the bridge deck).
The Conductor, think ’ Raifer’s football fan. had me stop the train, captured the pup, took it home, advvertised, and with no responses kept it.
Haven’t forgotten chasing and rescuing a dog with a quarter mile log ambulance.

Not only is the story great, but the numerous people who have commented is a further testament of how great this deed was. M Woodside Cotton Belt

That’s one Lucky Dog. Nice to know some people still do the right thing.

Great story!

Very nice story for all concerned.

its agood thing that dog was small enough to avoid the snow plow on the train. im glad that it didnt die.

It is not that he saved a dog, which is wonderful, but that we still are a country of people who care enough to go back and find out and HELP others. we need more like him.

No matter how badly the press paints the world, there are still a lot of good people out there!
Thanks to those BNSF crewmen who went out of their way to care!

Next step: BNSF fires them both for some safety violation

Douglas Ward’s comment echos my sentiments, with a caveat. The press doesn’t “paint.” It reports on the condition of our society.
I served many years as Chair of a local anti-drug coalition, and was made aware that reality is 85% of our society doesn’t care, while 10% does care. The other 5% are those who care, and actually do something to make the U.S. a better place.
These thoughtful railroaders are in that upper 5%, with another “attaboy” for going back to check on the dog with “a new dish, toys and treats.”

Awesome story…there are great people out there!

That's not at all far-fetched. When I worked for the then-AT&SF, I was charged with "deviating from your duty during your tour-of-duty."

And earlier today a BNSF employee just told me another variation of what "BNSF" **really** stands for: "Better Not Start a Family"
