Is the Willmar line a busy place until this gets cleaned up?
I think old Buffett had better open his petty cash drawer and double track the whole business from here to Spokane. For a section of the country completely dependent on rail, this has been a tough semester.
BNSF had the line open by Saturday morning, allowing Northstar to run it’s regular schedule, plus the extra train that had been announced for the opening of the Green Line light rail. Rides were free to all on Saturday and Sunday, along with free rides on all buses and both the Blue and Green light rail lines in celebration of the opening weekend.
Elk River is already multiple main (double track CTC) It took out both mains.
I didn’t realize that the EB went through Willmar and Breckenridge in the 1950’s, but my OG’s confirmed that. I took the EB to Fargo once when I asked my mother to route my grandmother and I that way, and my uncle in Grand Forks was not happy to have to drive 90 mi. down to pick us up. (He threatened to put on a train to Milwaukee and have my mother drive up there from Chicago to pick us up.) I see that the Western Star was routed on the other line through Minnesota. My other trips to GF were mainly on the Western Star, which is why I didn’t remember the line through Breckinridge.
