BNSF derailment in Montana erupts in fireball
Plevna’s 66 miles E-of Miles City on U.S. highway No.12/Montana State Highway map for 2011 - 2012, and about 90.2 miles E/b on BNSF (Montana Division’s Forsyth and Hettinger subdivisions). Derailment was about 1.5 miles W/b from Plevna.
Former MILW main through there was initially purchased by state of SD in 1983, operated-by then-BN and latter acquired-same (along w/all other SDRA trackage) in 1991. Connection w/former NP main is about 1.5 mi.E/b from Terry, which is 39.4 mi.E/b (or NE/downstream along Yellowstone R.) from Miles City.
any evidence that it was a sun kink in the rail?
Ventura County Star reported this story? Hardly. Associated Press wire item, and says so in the Star, which makes it a bizarre attribution for the Trains News Wire.
Is the Ventura County Star the closest newspaper to Ismay, Montana? Or is incident not tragic enough to be considered news worthy to everyone else?
BNSF reported track repaired and service restored eff.Aug.8th. John T.'s query regarding sun kink possible; high temp.@ Miles City (airport) on Aug.5th @ 15:20-MT was +95F/NWS. Ambient temp.@ Plevna varies maybe 3 to 5 degrees F either way from that under similar conditions.
Wreck site was closer-to 2.5 mi.W/b from Plevna, or 13.3 mi.E/b from Ismay.
I believe Ismay is the community that attempted to rename itself “Joe” to capitalize on the name of the famous football star Joe Montana.
I think that rail junction was at Terry, MT.
