Any more info on the derailment?

O.K, this is the one!

Sorry Trainnut, I had just started a topic about this but didn’t know that you had already posted this thread!

Well, as usual, more details will be forth coming.

Amazing! Can you guys imagine back in the 70s and 80s when professionals were forecasting the end of train wrecks with the “upcoming technology”?

Even with all the new safety equipment, the “professionals” didn’t think about deferred maintenance, single track mainlines, fatigued crews, multi-million dollar executive packages, or wackos in the public that cause train derailments.

[sigh]

KCTV has a video with a long interview with one of the first people to reach the scene. Be forewarned they call all of the crew members engineers but we know there were conductors also.

This area is CTC or ABS territory, correct?

It is CTC.

Update on derailment:

Traffic resumed today. I think both mains are open. 10 cars derailed and thousands of gallons of diesel fuel spilled. No hazard chemicals were on either train.

One crewman (engineer I think) is still in the hospital. Two conducters had minor injuries.

There is video of the derailment. Just go to www.kansascitychannel.com and in the left hand column under “KMBC Video Online” click on “Trains Crash in Northeast Kansas; 1 injured.” You’ll choose between Windows Media player or the other one, your connection speed, and then the video will load. It’s free to use.

The newschopper got there just after it happened and got some incredible shots.

Take care,

Russell

Looks like the crew that rammed their train into the standing train was not complying with 6.27 restricted speed. They beter makes plans to start colecting job insurance for awhile.
