Look at the bridge.
The Aberdeen sub actually runs Aberdeen-Mitchell-Yankton-Sioux City and not Sioux Falls. Their was a 10 MPH speed limit here probably because of the old wood trestle bridge. After 50 years of deferred maintenance (Milwaukee Road) you can only rebuild so fast. And Congress wants PTC done first all while the truckers ROW is largely subsidized by the common motoring public and taxpayers. BNSF is doing as good of job as they can with the huge capital needs of the physical plant. Need I say more.
o boy visited sd last year lots of trains loved to watch saw a very long train with all oil cars probably comin from nd
I bet that bridge was the cause of the derailment.
Nope you said it all Mr. Homan.
There are several good pictures of the wreck at: http://news.yahoo.com/6-ethanol-tanker-cars-derail-catch-fire-south-171106774.html
The Aberdeen Sub runs from Sioux City, IA to Aberdeen, SD (thus the name) via Yankton and Mitchell, SD. Former Milwaukee Road trackage.
Look on the bright side: it wasn’t crude oil, just corn extract.
Your “clarification” needs an edit. Sioux City is in Iowa.
Not seeing a bridge. Was there one?
APPEARS THAT THE BRIDGE ERIC IS LOOKING FOR WAS LOCATED JUST WHERE THE SMOKE IS RISING IN THE PHOTO, JUST TO THE LEFT OF THE BIG PLUME. FORTUNATELY THE LOCOS AND IDLER CAR MADE IT INTO THE CLEAR, BRAVE CREW FOR UNCOUPLING AND PULLING AWAY FROM WHAT COULD HAVE BECOME A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
Ed. did he SAY Sioux City was in South Dakota?
