BNSF fined for disregarding Washington environmental rules

“Officials worry that the chemicals used to treat the ties could impact area aquatic life.” So, no evidence?

Anyone who has worked around creosote knows how toxic it is. If you get it on your bare skin it will burn. It has happened to me.

Creosote treated ties don’t normally leach into the water…part of the reason for treating with creosote is to prevent water from being absorbed by the ties in the first place. Shouldn’t the State of Washington do some research before issuing fines like this.

I have to question whether these ties were ALL new ties or if some were old used ones, that were discarded. In either case I tend to believe they were accidentally left for an intended SHORT period of time, in most likely a quite remote, inaccessible area . Obviously, if they were new, they wouldn’t have been deliberately left there for any long length of time, because they are very expensive !

Tree huggers whining again. Give me a freakin’ break

With the enviromental whacko’s, everything is a woulda, coulda, shoulda, maybe or “we’re concerned”. There’s NEVER any proof (unless they plant it themselves). If these idiots would ever bother to get proof positive of anything, maybe then someone would actually listen to them.

I’m still waiting for some intelligent enlightenment concerning this incident !!

If it was against the rules when they did it, some heads need to roll.

I’d still like to know: what rules were broken, whether it was accidentally done, and for how long and where it happened. Anybody happen to know more about this incident ?
