They should be built in the USA.
Buy USA, sure
Agreed, why wern’t they slated for construction here ?
Isn’t labor cost at EMD’s new Muncie plant cheap enough? Did’nt EMD close the Hamilton plant in favor of the new Indiana plant on account of Indiana’s “Right to Work” status? Reeks of greed to me.
Interesting article. It would be even more interesting if the reason were known why the EMD units couldn’t be built here in the States.
yeah, buy American baby, the jobs you save may be OURS, somebody better have a talk with mr. buffet , that loco order went to THE WRONG PLACE I wonder what the break down is going to be.

Just Amazing How BNSF Is Constantly Buying New Power When Compared To The Other Freight Class 1 RR’S. While Other RR’s Rebuild Older Power, BNSF Must See An Advantage In Both Fuel Savings And Tax Advantages By Purchasing The Latest Technology. I Just Wish These Were All Being Built Here In The USA.
Whatever happened to the plan for EMD SD70ACe version of the GE ES44C4?
Some of the worlds hardest workers are right here in the USA.
Building what the railroads need won’t hurt the economy of
other nations. Our people need the jobs and we need the the
best and most efficent passenger rails that can be produced.
Great news for EMD.Hopefully they can more into Muncie in the future
Are the 10 SD70ACe-P4 included in this order?
While I admittedly know nothing about the production schedule of the Muncie plant, I suspect Mr. Dahlquist hit the nail on the head.
Speaking as an Engineer, I wish they BNSF would stick with GE. The new EMD’s well…suck! They are loud, rattle-traps and not nearly as comfortable as GE’s. There is a good reason that most in the 9300 series are not “Lead qualified” and no-one is alowed to ride in them. I loved the SD70 Macs, but these new ugly things make me sigh when I see I have one in the lead!
I worked for GM for 34 years & we had the top of the line of locomotives - everyone wanted them. The reason for the poor quality is because they are NOT made in the United States. We always manufactured the parts in house.
As Ross Perot said, that sucking sound is our economy going south. Perhaps KCS de Mexico will bring them back across the border.
“Made in America” passenger locomotives?
Well, I know those CP Eco units were built in Muncie…as were some International orders. I would imagine these BNSF orders are being assembled in Mexico so they can be delivered sooner (and not lose the order to General Electric)
Made in Mexico. Lost American jobs again. Just what is the Indiana plant for?
