And a fine place to watch is “Grand Crossing” at La Crosse, where the former Milw. Rd. and C,B & Q mains cross. The site also hosted the CNW and Green Bay Western lines at one time, thus meriting the title.

I have it on good authority that they’re also extending the sidings at Carter and Milledgeville, IL.

Also, unrelated to this, work has finally started on the capacity improvements at Eola (Aurora), IL, that BNSF demanded as a condition of the new Amtrak service to Moline, IL. (I haven’t heard anything yet of the connection to Iowa Interstate at Wyanet.)

They auto double track from Savanna Il to Chicago and Savanna,Il to Galesburg.

I was just shooting pictures along the Mississippi this past weekend and noticed all the new ties. I can’t believe how many trains were sitting waiting to move north into La crosse, WI.
