Hi from England [:)], can anyone say where the LLPX SD38-2’s that BNSF leases can be found. Have they ever worked down to So. CA or do they tend to stay in the twin cities/lakes area. Any help would be grateful.
I would guess they tend to stay in large yards as switchers. I am basing this assumption on how SP used its SD38-2s. It seems like UP uses SD38-2s in the same manner.
You are a couple of years too late to see the LLPX SD38-2s on the BNSF. They have all been sold off to shortlines. But there are either one or two on Pacific Harbor Lines in Long Beach, CA. Four are now on the Iowa Interstate Railroad in Iowa, and one is on Progressive Rail in Northfield, Minnesota.
fo pictures and locations of where they were taken, to see if they matchup with what road they were with and where they were maybe, is www.rrpicturearchive.net that might help alittle
The LLPX (ex-Reserve Mining) SD38-2’s were in general service on BNSF. I remember seeing about four of them in part of a large lash-up on BRC’s 59th Street line leaving the west end of Clearing.
Four of them are now on Iowa Interstate as IAIS 150-153.
