From another post it was stated that the BNSF intials were chosen to blend the railroad.
BNSF still reminds everyone of the parts and not the whole of the railway operation.
Why not phase out BNSF and choose a new name based on actual cities and regions served by the railroad. Replace the Decals and Paint of the old reporting marks.
The Colors and the Patterns of the Colors are distinct. Stay with the color scheme.
It is time to for the Railway to make a new name for itself. A name based on current operational procedures and regions served. Make the railroad a Whole Unit.

Why? Look at CSX. Do those letters still have the same meaning they did 20 years ago? How many people even know what they mean?(Chessie, Seaboard Muiltipieled) The name of a railroad has little to do with making it a unit. As long as BNSF does not mean poor service in the customers eyes, they should keep the name.
The thing was they wanted to distance themselves from the old names, since the operating part of the company is more commonly know simply as “B-N-S-F”. The full corperation name is “Burlington Northern Santa Fe”, the railroad entity of the company goes by the name “BNSF Railway”. I can’t blame them, even though the old logo was pretty cool.
I too personally like the old image but the swoosh has kind of grown on me. I also don’t understand why they keep changing the paint & logo theme. My favorite was the Santa Fe blue and yellow personally. They should have stuck with that, oh and drop the BN.
I just wish someone had asked Matt Rose the following question:
“How does changing the name of your railway ‘reflect’ core attributes of being ‘progressive, vital, approachable and resourceful and a strong part of the global transportation network’? Furthermore, how does going from The Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railway Company to ‘BNSF Railway’ achieve your stated objective of reflecting ‘our future as a leader in transportation service and innovation, as well as the growth of BNSF Railway and its contributions to the global transportation network’? Does this change reflect uncertainty and perhaps irresponsibility in your financial practices?”
Not that I care one whit for the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe, but I figured that it would have been funny to have gotten Rose off message and spluttering when a shareholder or someone didn’t just nod their head and say, “Great idea!”
Maybe they should have gone back to Burlington Northern Railroad, or just BN. I do like the Swoosh, but I like the Cream and Green Executive Paint better.
