I recently picked up an Athearn BNSF Dash 9 to try my hand at superdetailing. Can anyone recommend paint in BNSF’s heritage colors? I can’t seem to find any BNSF colors at all at any local hobby shops (Floquil or Polly Scale). I understand the paint may not be a direct match up with what’s on the shell now but I’m sure i can alter it and get it close. I little weathering will help blend it in anyway.
The Dash 9 is a beautiful locomotive. I see at least one a day living a block away from the BNSF line. I’m relativly new to the hobby, so I hope this helps. I did some paint match-ups in the 2002 Walthers HO cat.(pg.906,907). If you don’t have any luck finding these at the hobby shop, I’m sure you could order them. Check out these Floquil colors-
DRGW Orange #270-414254
SCL Hopper car yellow #270-414390
Engine black #270-110010
Let me know if these are what you had in mind, like I said I’m new to this! Good Luck!

Also, you might look into Badger Modelflex paint. It’s water based so maybe a little safer than the others as well. Here are the colors you seek…
16-151 BNSF Green
16-152 BNSF Orange
16-195 BNSF Silver
16-196 BNSF Yellow
Thanks for the help guys! I have heard the Modelflex paint is excellent for handrails and won’t chip off as easily as others.
