BNSF reopens Transcon after New Mexico derailment
Went by there on the way to the west coast. I did get three pictures of the containers on the ground.
No reason given for what may have caused the derailment?
Kudos to BNSF’s Engineering Dept. for the quick recovery.
It’s my understanding the containers were empty and the cars were blown over by high winds.
During high winds, it might be wise for freight trains deadheading with empty containers and box cars to operate at a reduced speed, or just pull off onto a siding off the mainline and wait until the storm passes.
