BNSF sells four-axle power

This story begs for a photo of the engines in-route.

I hope the gp30’s and esp.the cf7’s are not cut up for parts and are put to use as eather units for sale or lease

What model locomotives will BNSF use to replace the Geeps?

So sad to see these old girls leave. The last class one with GP 30/35 's.

For those who don’t know, Larry’s is a scrapper, recycler, redistributor, leaser of heavy equipment (including railroad equipment). I’ve seen many videos of them on YouTube.

Why are pictures so hard to come by?! Can anyone answer this question?

Got a pic gang. I will look to submit it to the photo album

I’m with DR. Zimmerman–those trains beg for photo coverage of a once in a lifetime group of power gathered together in two trains crossing some awesome backdrops from BAR to CHI–what an opportunity.

Here is a YouTube video of the move:

It’s a trickle down effect. Generally speaking new GEVOs displaced SD40-2s and the like to yard, local, and transfer duty, which bumped the GP60s, GP50s, GP40s, and GP38s down a notch to other yard and local duty previously held by the older GP30 and 35 models. Same thing happened when GP38-2s and GP40-2s took over for aging GP9s and F-Units in the 70s and 80s.

I saqw these units enroute at West Crookton, Arizona the day before Thanksgiving Day.

If anyone or any entity is inclined to preserve a pair of authentic AT&SF GP-30s (albeit, they were rebuilt at mid-life and what turned out to be a very long one), it looks like it’s time to get out your checkbook.

I believe that BNSF has a good many of GP-30s in storage in Saginaw, Texas, which is on the north side of Fort Worth.

Heading to Larry’s to buy me a GP30! I wonder how much the rebuilding changed them. Their outward appearance seems to be the same. I saw many in Amarillo and Temple back in the 90’s. Maybe I can pick up an original prime mover on eBay.

What is Larry’s Truck Electric going to do with them?

I covered the rollout of the last CF-7 at the Cleburne TX shops in the late 1970s and I hope the BNSF will preserve that unit. FYI I was state editor of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram at the time and the AT&SF was always bigh news to us. FYI, the CF-7 rollout I ordered run as a full color photo. As an FYI we also ran a full color photo of the Pennsylvania GG-1 when it was donated to the Age of Stem Museum when it was donated.

Congratulations to George and Spiro for helping to preserve American locomotive history.

I won’t cry if all of the CF7s get scrapped. Since turnabout is fair play, components from the CF7s should go to restore F units.

PRESERVE PLEASE!!!
