BNSF Texas drawbridge replaced, heads to California

The headline indicates that it’s a “done deal”, but the body of the article indicates otherwise.

Recycle the bridge in Petaluma. Now somebody is thinking! Bravo!!

This could be a very positive arrangement. However, based on my memory from shooting video of the CFNR, this lift bridge will be much more visible to surrounding properties than the swing bridge, and I wonder if the landowners can object on environmental grounds. This certainly should be investigated before the deal is finalized.

"BNSF doesn’t want to get rid of it, but the Coast Guard is driving the replacement.” This is presumably to widen the channel. Is the Coast Guard paying even part of the cost or is this another case of reverse subsidy?

I just wondered though, how in the world are they going to ship it to California?
