It is a crying shame that not one cent is going to the Raton Pass line. If the great increase in traffic happens by 2035, then this line will be missed and lamented. Any line abandoned or turned into a trail does not come back. Look at how the Milwaukee Road Pacific Extension loss is cried about by the Northwestern states but it is too late for that line. Now is the time to preserve Raton Pass.
I was on the Southwest Chief one week past. BNSF is doing some signal work and what I was able to see, work on switches. There is also some new ties laid out and new rail.
When any work may be started or completed no one can verify.
Anything on a second bridge over the Pecos River? With Abo Canyon complete isn’t this the last piece of single track? (Or have I missed something?)
Raton is embargoed and will stay that way. Unless the state can partner with an operator, the line probably doomed.
I hope some of money will go to Raton Pass and Hopefully the Spaceport America will get siding, for we don’t get all truck traffic through Truth or Consequences (county seat of Sierra County where the Spaceport is )
Well, you can thank Governor Susana Martinez for her short sightedness in Scuttling the purchase of the old passenger route from Waldo to Trinidad, Colo. I f she was governor before the Rail Runner was conceived, it’s a sure bet the Rail Runner would have never seen the light of day.
