Does anyone know of why the BNSF gave up hauling Coal on the Arbor line from Lincoln to Nebraska City? And also the North Omaha (OPPD) Power plant too? As for the Arbor line…Has the Track been torn up? And is it now a worthless Trail. Allan.
I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
They sold the line to Kyle a couple of years ago . It is shown on the BNSF map.
Thank you!
Kyle no longer runs on the line, lease expired. (no biz other than coal train to power plant)
Nebraska Public Power District owns the line (BNSF sold in 2003)
UP has the coal contract and serves the line from the Neb City end.
Remainder of line embargoed, there is an inactive request with STB to partially abandon the line…an adjunct to this line abandoned by BN is now the “Steamboat Trace” trail near Nebraska City
Great[V]. There seems to be more of a trend in this country anymore. Abandoned Rail lines. Allan.
The problem is immediately adjcent to the line, it’s called Nebraska Highway 2 (your tax dollars supporting the trucking industry)…add to that the disproportionate number of rail lines that radiated out of Lincoln for a town its size and you have the rest of the problem. Forgotten about the other long gone rail lines that spider webbed put of there?
