Bob’s Train Box: Episode 12

DANG!! My slow computer made me miss the Easter musical celebration! Now I have to buy a new computer out of my train money stash DANG!

Good improvment on the lighting Bob, it shows the cheese much better, keep up the good work! oh and nice bunny ears!

good work bob

Thank you Bob for the new lighting. It is a great improvement.

we do not need reviews of $1,000.00 locos at this time; I would like to see looks at Atlas Industrial offers, etc. They are more in line with those products we can afford.

Great looking loco. Can We get a government loan so that we can
afford to buy it?

What is Engineer Onboard? Something like Oddesy?

Great show with the new lighting.

Love the new lighting. I sure would like to see a little more S gauge under that lighting. What’s from American Models, S Helper Service, Hoquat Hobbies, DesPlaines Hobbies, Lehigh Valley, Walthers, Smoky Mountain Mountain Model Works, South Wind Models, Ye Olde Huff N Puff, Tomalco, Micro Engineering, Turner Model Works along with many other scenery, structure and scale vehicle suppliers?

I don’t want the comments section to become another mini-forum, but let me re-state that this is quite literally a “show-and-tell” the train gear I have in my office at the time I shoot the episode.

If a manufacturer doesn’t send something in to us, it probably isn’t going to get shown, unless Carl or Kent or I buy something for personal use - which then kinda limits it to Union Pacific or Amtrak (Carl) New York Central (me) or a Canadian road name (Kent).

The only “under $1,000” locomotives I have on hand which have not already been on BTB (a step or two before being in the magazine) are the MTH Tropicana set - which will probably lead the next BTB) and a Williams Congressional set, which I received after I finished BTB 12.

So, like the old Publisher’s Clearing House ad used to say, “You can’t win, if you don’t enter.” If I don’t have a physical product to pick up and show, the odds that it won’t be in BTB are 100%.

Your new lighting is a great technical improvement. The extra light allows you and the products to be not only lighter, but more in focus as well. I noticed however that in this episode you seemed to be reading your teleprompter script from somewhere off the center line of your camera. The old (though darker) Bob addressed the camera in a more squared off, straightforward manner. I work in the TV and Movie industry here, so maybe I’m being super critical, but we’ve noticed that as a rule, a host looking squarely into the camera makes him less distracting and more appealing for the audience. Watch how Obama does it. Make no mistake however, your performances are truly terrific, and a much appreciated adjunct to our magazine subscriptions. Please keep up the good work.

Bob good stuff and I hope it continues to show products and web sites

A great ‘issue’ - didn’t know DCD had catalogs. Love the lighting ‘test’

The days of the old Lionel are very short. Who really collects the old “toy train cars” that were popular when we were kids? I have two great Lionel Loco’s that surpass anything Lionel produced when I was a kid and although I still do own my old Lionel’s I am proud of my $650 and $1,000 loco’s as I truly believe quality is more satisfactory than quantity. Keep putting your spare change in the cookie jar.

Thanks to Bob’s Train Box I have found several items for my layouts.
Thanks Bob.

I like the new lighting.
Shows the product off much better.
Keep up the good work on BTB.
Yes, I would also like a bailout package to purchase some of these items.
All in all, a great job done by you.

Five minutes of nothing.

Always a fun show!

Bob, Lets review the basic Lionel trains, this computer stuff is for the rich. Lionel has place it self out my market with the vision line, i keep to the basics sound trains. and the basic k line, and williams trains.and the new Lionel retro line is excellent, that i just got!

trains, basic trains, that last more than a life time ,without circuit boards ,a spark on the track kill my hi end train, and the cost to fix it !,and all the special electric protection i had to put in circuit panel in my house, BRING ON THE BASIC TRAINS BOB. the real boys trains, That are dads had, and gave to us, and now we give them to are children. and are still going strong,PS. in 50 to 75 years who’s going to have all those special soundboards? I guess they will be converted back to basic sounding trains, like the good old days. That Mr Lionel made, simple and dependable
