Book on GE Evolution

I had my local book store order a book on the GE Evolution and I read the whole book this weekend. Wonderful pictures and illustrations. The author’s name escapes me right now.

It doesn’t sound like AC ist the clear cut replacement for DC locomotives. The future will include hybrid locomotives but it sounds like the added expense will be an issue for awhile.

I think Sean Graham-White is the author. He is the moderator, and a frequent poster on the Yahoogroup “LocoNotes”

Yes,

Sean was the author. I think it is a wonderful publication. I loved the book.[tup]

As discussed on several recent threads on this forum, GE is touting it’s newest GEVO variant, the ES44AC-4, as a possible replacement for the DC motored GEVO units in their catalog. This is an A-1-A (six axles but 4 traction motors i.e 2 axles are unpowered)) locomotive which GE is trying to sell for about the same price as the DC version of the ES44. The unit has two fewer traction motors and 2 fewer AC invertors than a standard ES44AC. BNSF has taken delivery of 25 for fast freight service…

I don’t believe the model is covered in the book as it was introduced only recently…

Speaking of the ES44AC-4…has BNSF stated anything about their performance yet?
