Book Tower Detroit, Michigan in 1/32 scale

I want to scratch build a building called Book Tower. The problem is the actual building is 475 feet tall and 37 stories. In 1/32 that’s over 14 feet tall, my ceiling is just under 10. Should I just eliminate a few floors??? Any other ideas??? The postcard image doesn’t really do the building justice. It also has a fantastic copper mansard roof.

Oh, I’d leave a few off! I tried to count the storiesin the picture & only got about 32!! Plus, I don’t think there’s a 13th. floor either. Don’t know if that’s true anymore. Thanks, John

No Problem: Jus t cut a hole in th floor or attic above & run a Helix in the tower your possibilities would be endless. Regards Steve[:-,][:D]

You could model the building in a sightly smaller scale. It’s done all the time.
Sounds like an interesting project.

Thanks guys. [:)] They all sound like good ideas but for the helix I’d have to talk my upstairs neighbor into that one![:p] If I build in 1:48 instead of 1:32 it will only be about 9.89 feet tall! [:p]

In addition to omitting a few floors, I would leave out a couple of columns of windows, so that the proportions still look right.

I think I might build in 1:48. That way it would still fit without going through the ceiling! [:p]

I think I might take a drive up to Motown today to take some pictures.

underworld-unless you already finished your model of the Book Tower, take a look at this web page for some ideas on big buildings- http://www.modellbahn-wiehe.de/index1.htm go to the “galeries” (it’s all in German)
