Hi,
Are there any good books or plans out there that would help guide me in building from scratch an all wood trestle? I’d like to build a two track all wood trestle, in the neighborhood of 50 inches long - 400 scale feet. Have not decided yet if I want to make it curved or not.
Also, I’m thinking I would like to model a trestle in West Virginia through the mountains, in the 1940-1960 period, if any wood trestles existed in that state at that time. Any suggestions as to which one to model if there was one?
Thanks.
Check out the trestle jigs at blackbearcc.com. That should give you some good ideas. No, I am not affiliated with them at all, nor have I ordered anything from them yet.
Hope this helps
Charlie
Kalmbach published Model Railroad Bridges & Trestles in 1992 (reprints of old MR articles) and it was still in print in the early 2000s and is seen at swap meets. It has plans for a timber trestle and a timber deck truss bridge Paul Mallery’s classic Bridge & Trestle Handbook was first released in 1958 but has been updated since then and I think Carstens still offers it. It has drawings but more importantly the kind of technical information that you need to understand a plan Dave Nelson
Thanks both comments were very helpful.
