Boston and Maine RR

I’m currently modeling the B&M railroad between the '50’s & '60’s but can never find any rolling stock especially cabooses and and boxcars. How come they don’t produce any anymore?

What scale are you modeling?

If you’re into HO, there’s quite a few. Do an advanced search at Walthers website, search HO scale freight cars using the description B&M. You’ll get lots of “hits.” Bowser has some, Intermountain and Branchline did but you can make a backorder. Funaro has craftsman kits on special order. If I spent more than a minute searching, I’m sure I’d find more by checking other internet sources such as Horizon Hobbies, etc.

Red Caboose makes kits for B&M 40’ AAR boxcars. Part #'s RC-8023-a, RC-8023-c, RC-8023-d (they have no photos).

B&M Railroad Historical Society say resin kits will be available for several of the old wooden cabeese.

Warning. Except for the craftsman kit makers like Westerfield, Sunshine, Funaro, and Speedwitch, the general practice of mass manufacturers of model railroad cars is to letter models which are incorrect for the prototype so that they can conveniently and affordably offer models in demand. That is, just because a model is decorated for the B&M railroad doesn’t mean the model conforms to a B&M prototype. My suspicion is that the majority of models are like that. Unfortunately, manufacturers don’t warn consumers when they are offering stand-in models. My latest experience was to find out the GS gondola lettered by Red Caboose that I finished building today is a stand-in model. The built date and capacity were my clues for questioning the model’s authenticity, and an expert confirmed my doubt.

Athearn makes RS3’s in Maroon & Gold, and P1k does RS2’s.

Rapido is releasing Osgood Bradley B&M Coaches in both Maroon and Green.

New England Model Craftsman is redoing old Ambroid Commuter cars, with laser cut components.

Bethlehem Car Works also has B&M Commuter Coaches although older than the NEMC ones, and offer RPO’s, Baggage Cars, and steel coaches and combines.

Con Cor is making P-54 coaches, which B&M had in the 800 series.

Accurail makes several wood sheathed boxcars.

You can sometimes find some great deals on ebay.com & kijiji.com, I found some great B & M cabooses on ebay
