Boston commuter agency posts record February on-time performance

Thanks to a winter that wasn’t, plus being under the fiscal gun for late trains, subways, light rail, trolley bus and bus operations, they had no option but to do better. I wonder if they were always capable of operating at a higher level of efficiency, but chose not to.

Well done, heirs to the New Haven, B&A, and B&M.

It is amazing what will happen when snow does not get in your way.

Hmm, did they previously say screw it, we’ll get there when we get there? LoL Get real.

Mr. Benham;

Do not mix the MBTA subway, light rail, trolley bus and bus operations with commuter rail. They’re not a contract operation, the commuter rail is. However, I grant you that few in Boston are complaining about this year’s “winter that wasn’t.”

The article states that the railroad “was on schedule 94.7 percent of the time in February 2011.” Were those numbers really from last year, or was the year reported in the article incorrect?

Comment to TRAINS: if the “February 2011” in the article should be “February 2012”, could you fix it?

Thanks.

George

Mr Benham - there’s no way managers can plan to under-deliver performance, but maybe there has always been underlying capability, such as unnecessarily long sectional times, in the system. I suspect from afar that the three month trend indicates an operational team that have got the system into a controlled position - as far as is ever possible on a railway given its susceptibility to external events. Suggest it’s better if we start from a charitable stNdpoint about the current success!

this is not a great record,considering boston has had the second least amount of snow in 150 years!
