Boston Green Line extension included in Federal New Starts funding request

Last vestige of the Big Dig. Required as part of an environmental settlement if I recall. It’s an old B&M line currently used also by the commuter rail.

I heard about the proposal for this extension way back in 1980 yet only now is it finally, slowky getting underway. It’s a shame it isn’t completed already.

Somerville Mass held the rating of the most densley populated city per square mile in the US. A mile and a half wide by 3 1/3 miles long and at one time they was 176,000 people living in three deckers all over the place. The T extension will branch off and run into and through two parts of the city. Already gentrification is taking over and parking is always a battle so the T will be greatly appreciated. The only trouble is the Northern leg is supposed to go out to Medford Mass at Rt 16 and NIMBYs have lined up saying they don’t want it in their neighborhood even though the T runs heavy rail trough that same route.
