Boston & Maine Literature?

Does anybody know any good resources to literature on th B&M railroad from steam to diesel transition till today like :

-What was or did the locos have certain purposes.

-History of freight and passenger trains.

-Transitions of history in chronological order.

-Is there a recource where I could find a good amount of B&M locos, freight cars, and passenger trains (I know I can search online stores but I was wondering if theres any stores that have alot of B&M trains).

http://www.google.com is very often a good place to start when looking for information.

Googling for the terms:

Boston and Maine railroad

I find e.g. a wikipedia page on the Boston & Maine Railroad, the Boston & Maine Railroad Historical Society, a page on the B&M from the American Rails web page and so on and so forth.

As for a “resource” (or rather - source) for B&M locomotives and rolling stock, presumably in H0 scale since you don’t mention the scale, try the standard dealers first - e.g. http://www.walthers.com or http://www.modeltrainstuff.com

Doing a plain search for “B&M” in the H0 scale locomotive section of walthers, this is what I get:

http://www.walthers.com/exec/search?category=Locomotive&scale=H&manu=&item=&keywords=B%26M

The B&M Railroad historical society has a newsletter for modelers - can be found here: http://www.trainweb.org/bmrrhs/mn128/

Another quick google search for search terms:

“B&M” locomotives H0 scale

yields several hits - including this advisory on B&M steam model railroad engines from the period 1945-1956: http://faracresfarm.com/jbvb/rr/bmrr/steam.html

The same guy has pages on freight cars: http://faracresfarm.com/jbvb/rr/bmrr/freight.html and passenger trains: http://faracresfarm.com/jbvb/rr/bmrr/passenger.html, and a root page for his modeling New England railroads here: http

This website is your best bet. http://faracresfarm.com/jbvb/rr/bmrr/b_and_m.html

As for models, B&M Steam and passenger equipment is difficult to come by. The Steam locomotives, with the exception of the Athearn P-4s (circa 1960s), are only available in brass. Diesels are much easier to come by, with most of the B&M diesel fleet available in HO.

What era and location were you thinking of modeling?
