Hi all: I bought a box car at a train show. It was in a box of cars priced at $3.00 each. I thought it was an Athern, BB when I was looking at it. When I started working on it I was trying to get it open to add weight and!!! The sides didn’t come off the chassis, the Roof and Ends came off in one piece, and the Sides were attached to the Floor. The Under side looked very much like the Athern BB, with the weight and coupler pockets, with the metal covers that snap on.

Does anyone know Who Made This?

sounds like an athearn reefer to me.

That’s an Athearn 40’ reefer. The 50’ models have regular shells, as do most of Athearn’s other cars.

That’s definitely Athearn. I have several that do the same thing.

And for you young tykes, a note that these cars used to have opening doors and hatches.
