Boxcar rolls across United States-Canadian border undetected

Not good!

Aside from the first paragraph, it reads as if they’re repeating the Hamilton Spectator’s story without editing. I wouldn’t expect a general-interest newspaper writer to know the difference between a boxcar and an auto rack.

If it was used to carry finished vehicles, wouldn’t it be an autorack instead of a boxcar?

Uh oh. I see “Unstoppable 2” in the works.

A boxcar? Perhaps your headline writer should read the story again.

Autoracks are prone to get away from switch crews if the wind is high enough, but not here, wrong direction.
I strongly suspect this may be a protest over short staffing at Canadian border crossings by Homeland Security,Customs & Immigration and Border Patrol staffers who are fed up with being over worked, under protected and underpaid.

It was obviously people trying to flee the US before November elections!

Our wunnerful DHS is ‘on-the-job’.

Perhaps it is the last of the 50 foot double door automobile cars. There might be four DeSoto Firedomes inside!

Good thing it stopped where it did. Another half mile or so and it was at the top of a long 1% downgrade that would have taken it for miles!!

Whether or not a general interest newspaper writer should know a box car from an auto rack is debatable. However, someone editing for a specialty publication like TRAINS certainly should know the difference.

Oh MY oh my, Now Canda has an immigration problem, with people south of the border sneaking into Canada. Lock that railroad car up, it is an illegal alien sneaking into Canada.

Just push it back and call it good.

Oh, puleeze! Not another “Unstoppable!” One was enough, with the director’s penchant to mount the engine cab on a turntable so it “merry-go-rounded” in front of the camera…just in case the runaway train itself wasn’t exciting enough.
What the movie needed was a director with a passion for railroading, and its dangerous reality.
And I think the next movie could be called…“BoxCar!!”

Border security was busy playing poker.

American border security on the Canadian border is a joke. Other than making life miserable for Americans coming back from Canada on business or pleasure, they serve no real purpose. All they worry about is making the monthly quota and getting the fat government check with free health care and a golden pension. I know about the quota because I was detained at the border for several hours on the last Sunday of the month and was told face to face about the quota coming up short. But did they inspect anything? Of course not. That requires actual work. Government workers get sick if they have to perform actual work.

Autorack or boxcar? Both are right, you always lose some in the exchange rate lol

How many tons of weed, nuclear weapons grade, guns, etc could have been on the car, which is an AutoRack, NOT a boxcar! Poor reporting can get you fired. Glad our government and Canada’s is on the ball, I feel so much safer now! Lucky the AutoRack was wearing a depends, it would have never made it across…
