I’m re-entering model railroading after some 25 years away. I need help in finding information on modeling in brass. Any advice re: books, online articles, magazaine articles, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
You can see Stephen Anderson’s MODEL RAILROADER series, “Build an HO 4-6-0 in brass,” in our October '97 through May’98 issues. While focused on a specific locomotive, it includes a wealth of methods and techniques that apply to many other brass modeling projects. The back issues are available from Kalmbach Publishing co. in the Train shops section of this Web site.
Good luck,

MODEL RAILROADER Magazine
I downloaded those articles from the MR site about a year ago. Are they no longer available as pdf files?? Worthwhile too ,I might add.
TMG:
Do a search for magazine articles by Carl Traub, for one thing. There are other notables but his name is on top of the mental stack at the moment.
A good if old book mentioned in the “ancient books” thread is HOW TO BUILD MODEL RAILROADS AND EQUIPMENT, by Barton K. Davis. The author does assume you already know the techniques, but following his projects might be very instructive.
Here is a useful website:

It belongs to the 4mm finescale people. Finescale is something I’m not into, but their techniques are good for anybody,
The above links to this very useful website:

Mr. Ero is a unique genius with his own way of doing pretty much anything, and who writes up meticulously detailed project descriptions.
Google can probably scare up a lot more, too.
Don’t forget to check your library, and don’t feel that you must stick to MRR books. You may find books on jewelery making or other metal crafts with very useful tips.
