What would a brass Hallmark Models Inc Wabash 2900 Series “o-1 class” 4-8-4 be worth?
do you have a photo I guess $100 to $150
I had been hoping for a little bit more than that, somebody I spoke to in a local hobby shop thought around $700.00, basically new in the box or very little use, not sure
You will get exactly what someone will give you for it.
What a dealer sells it for is not what open market is.
Caboose Hobbies has one listed.

Thanks for the link!
If you’re going to sell it for a hundred dollars, sell it to me!
All joking aside, the best sources for pricing these days are reputable sellers - Dan’s Train Depot at www.brasstrains.com - and Caboose Hobbies are two of my favorites. You should also check Ebay for a couple of weeks - just search for “HO Trains”, go to the brass section, and search for “4-8-4.” Look for the model you have on hand, and watch the bidding. The 1994 edition of the "Brown Book: doesn’t list a Wabash 4-8-4 by Hallmark, but the Dong Jin 4-8-2s they imported were worth around $210 mint. Prices rose for awhile, but the brass market has slumped a bit lately, so my guess without seeing it would be the $4-500 range.
Dan’s Trains and Caboose Hobbies would be your best resource. Hallmark put out some very lovely and beautifully detailed steam models, but they were all a little light on their feet–not well weighted or balanced, and in order to get them into top running condition, you have to do quite a bit of ‘tweaking’ on them–first thing is replacing their very underpowered can motors. They’d probably be more for the ‘collector’s market’ and not necessarily the ‘runner’s market’ these days. I have a Mopac 4-6-2, and while it’s a handsome little devil, even after a lot of work, about the only thing it will pull is its tender and a couple of passenger cars. Which is too bad, because it’s really a HANDSOME loco.
After that, and hearing from some other owners, I stayed away from Hallmark. I’d think that a collector, however, would be willing to pay somewhere in the $3-400 dollar range for them–but the brass market is ‘soft’ right now, so I’d wait a little while.

Thanks for the info guys, my first post and it was really helpful
Only a few weeks ago I purchased exactly that model. I won it on ebay for about 370$ - and in my eyes (I also have some year’s experience with brass models) the money was well spent. But I have to say that I was looking for that engine because the WABASH O-1 looks very nice to me. So if you just look for a 4-8-4 in general you definitely have better choices.
Be aware that Hallmark is the only importer for a model of these nice engines - this may or may not affect the price.
My model runs really well, and even pulls well. It has a large can type motor (don’t know if it is original), and is very VERY highly detailed - far more than today’s plastic steamers. Of course I will do some work to get it even more detailed (I specialized to redetail some brass models) like a tender vestibule, an ashpan, some brake hanger heads, some sand lines, tender truck chains etc. - but even by today’s standard the detail is very high.
The quality of craftsmanship though has nothing to do with the Japanese, that’s why I always look for the weak points and rework the solder joints on most Korean brass models.
