Guys, have you watched the Monday Morning Express episodes by BRASSTRAINS.COM? I’ve seen the first three and they are quite informative and entertaining! This latest episode goes into great detail on how they aquired a HUGE brass collection. They needed a crew and took over a week to catalog, package and transport it all. I like their “behind the scenes” segment of their business. Their interviews with various brass importers is always a treat. I am by no means a big collector of brass, having just one locomotive and three cabooses (cabeese ?) in my roster thus far. But I recommend these videos to anyone who enjoys model trains. Your impressions?
I just finished watching the 3rd episode of MME and - like the first two episodes - it was interesting. I guess my biggest gripe about the content so far is that it’s been VERY heavy on the western roads: UP & SP, in particular. It comes across that this is a reflection of what the current projects are from the various brass mnaufacturers; whether that is a fair accessment or not.
I was kinda curious how much they shelled out for those 5,000 brass models. Even to own and display that many is mind-boggling to me. Ya’ definitely gotta have some space (and $$$) to be able to do that. [:S]
These episodes are extremley well done and quite informative. Yup big bucks are shelled out and today this takes a lot of courage due to shrinking of brass market. Many times consigment is used and workable for a seller like Dan with a world wide audience and market…unlike placing models on consignement in a typical hobby shop where rarely now does a prospective buyer enter.
When I was quite active as a brass dealer, I did come across mega collections as seen in Dan’s video, and funds came from lines of credit from several banks. but 20 years ago, many times I was able to pay off credit line before first payment came due. Not so today unless you have a well established on-line global presense with an excellent reputation as does Dan.
Wow I had never really considered Brass before. I don’t really know how I would get up to speed on it. The quality of the video is spectacular compared to even the better Youtube gurus who have 100,000 hits for their videos of various subjects.
I thought it was kinda ironic when Dan stated in his recent “Current Trends” spot that small steam was selling well. I picked up my first three brass locos in the past 6 months and two of those three were small steam: A NYC 0-6-0 and a NYC 0-10-0 switcher.
I feel so important now that I’m a “trend setter”. [(-D]
I was unaware of the company, their website, and this show. Very interesting.
I have to think – but maybe I am dead wrong – that a very high % of every brass engine and car that has been imported still exists. Even basket cases that have been dropped and damaged still have value for parts.
