The world already leads the United States in passenger rail investment. Is freight rail next?!

Americans are independent minded. Most still prefer to drive than use trains and buses. The United States’ freight rail network is more than adequate for the country’s needs. Making direct comparisons between America’s capitalist economy and the command and control economies of the rest of the world is unfair.

This is interesting news. How about a map of the intended routes. The investment scheme is a bit convoluted and is a bit confusing to understand. Does the government still hold title to the trackage and dole out operating rights as a form of socialistic-bureaucratic make work scheme that is reported to be for the public benefit?

It is odd to me that in Brasil 45 billion nets 6000 miles of new railway but in the US 68 billion only gets 400 miles (california)!!?? While I totally suport both projects how can there possibly be such a price difference!?

Theron White: the difference is freight vs. 220 mph passenger.

Too bad that our leaders don’t get the message!

The american farmers better sit up and take notice. It is already more cost effective in some instances for east coast animal producers to buy protein (ie soybeans) from Brazil even with their current infrastructure. When the rails are upgraded in Brazil the midwest ag sector better look out. NS and CSX will be moving unit grain trains inland.

I would greatly enhance the readability of these articles if pictures and maps were included. How about it??
