Bridges On UP West Metra Line

A couple of days ago me and my dad went on bike ride past the Lombard train station, Metra had people working on the bridge. Could this be preparatoin so Metra could start using F-40PHMs or even Mp-36s on that line?

Believe me, Colin, the bridges on the West Line aren’t the problem. Any line that can handle coal trains and doublestack trains would have no problem with the MP36s. It’s the other two lines that have some lower-rated bridges. And, since these three lines are operated with the same pool of power (any unit could be assigned to any of the three lines), we’re stuck with the lighter units until the inner portions of the other two lines (as far out as Des Plaines and Lake Bluff) are upgraded.

I think that’s just a surfacing gang that’s been causing all of the whistle-blowing through our towns.
