I have recently read somewhere on here, a post about trains in England NOT being called “goods” trains, but Frieght trains. Well I am sorry but on BRITISH RAILWAYS AND latterly BRITISH RAIL they WERE called GOODS trains and only frieghtliner trains had the title frieght.

I was a fireman on BRITISH RAILWAYS and a guard on BRITISH RAIL and I worked many goods trains both on the footplate and as a guard right up to the end of BR.

It is like road transport, in England heavy GOODS vehicles are called LORRIES…in other parts of the world including the states they are called TRUCKS.

We are here in ENGLAND and we do not use the American version of the English language.

Goods trains are Goods trains and Lorries are Lorries.

Goods wagons vs freight cars. Only a few raiway terms are the same in the USA and England, is there a glossary ? I thought I saw one recently but I can’t remember where on the net.
