I’m looking to get the BROADWAY LIMITED, PRECISION CRAFT MODELS, N&W Y6b 2-8-8-2 with DCC & Sound. From what I’ve read this looks like a good one but I would like to hear the opinion of owners with this model or other models from this manufacture. Also if someone has any recomondations
My PCM Y6B is a very good running model engine with a great whistle for sure. The chuff is OK but not great for the compound mode or simple mode of chuff. At slow speeds, it sound decent. If you like N&W, you will like this one.
Check FDT for give away prices on the Y6B before they are all gone.
Cheers
What’s so great about the whistle? It can"t be “played”, and there’s no doppler. Also, the headlight comes on bright immediately (not gradually) followed by the sound of the turbo-generator revving up, and the front light is yellow, while the tender light is bright white. The chuffs sound fine upon starting, but after the engine gets up to about 25 mph, it takes on the sound of a skipping CD.
Also, it doesn’t pull as much as my A.
Sorry, but after being spoiled by the BLI A, this engine is a bit of a disappointment.
FDT only has models with no sound or DCC. [V]
If you bought one with out sound where would you go to get the sound?
GTX, guess we are both Mopar People. There are only 3 things I don’t like about my PCM Y6b
1 the yellow head light, just to dim for me.
2 Sound is a little quite comparied to my other BLI’s. That maybe a quick fix after I check the CV’s.
3 Little small for my taste, hoping it would be as big as a Big Boy. It is about 4" shorter than the Big Boy with there tenders. Still a good sizes engine about the sizes of a Class J.
As a whole it is a good looking engine and pulls like it has a Hemi in it! I have yet to find what the max pull is. 40 coal cars, 2 flat cars and a 50 foot box car it pulls like there is nothing behind it. I have around a 1.5% + grade on my bench, does not slow down a lick as it hits the grade! I wish I could say the same for my PCM Big Boy that must go back to PCM.
Being new to this hobby slow the speed is the best I have! A line is about 75 feet and it has taken 10 minutes to make it around. To me that is slow, but yet never slows when it hits the grade.
As far as the whistle, well to me that is the weak part of the sound, I like the sound of my Hudson the best. But I do like the radom sounds it makes as it runs.
Far as tracking, kicks but again. Don’t let my posting numbers fool you it is mainly asking for help. My Track work is better but still some engines like to derail sometimes. Y6B has yet to derail! I am guessing I have 40 + hours on mine and all so let to cleaning the wheels.
Top speed, well none of my BLI’s steamers or PK’s oil burners can touch it.
On a scale of 1 to 10 I give it a 8.9.

Yes I like Mopar too, FDT has them for 199.99 but no sound or DCC. I have no way to know if I can get the sound and DCC? Sound is important plus DCC. I may have to pass on it if I cannot not buy the sound and DCC for it. Not sure what to do on that one. Its sOOO cheap but gosh I am not knowledgable on the DCC and sound stuff. I know how to use DCC and sound but have no idea on what or how to install it. Do you have any ideas? They want over $500 on Ebay and internet stores for this unit with sound. No way am I paying that.
Add a steam tsunami.
Where do you get one? Does it match the sound of this engine?
I have looked at the SOUNDTRAXX TSUNAMI STEAM · 826103 Heavy Steam and wonder how hard this is to install into a PCM N&W Y6b. Can any one give some intructions? I do not want to spend $200 on a engine then spend $100 on DCC sound and destroy it. Please help me if you can.
Thanks
They are among the best and most smooth running engines I got. Nothing bad to say about them.

Precision Craft Models N&W Y6b # 2200 Lok-Sound
Is this one any good with this sound decoder in it?
would you pat 350 for it? Do not want to get ripped off.
Thanks
if your looking for the Y6b to be as big as the BB, thats just not the case. N&W had to fit them on their turntables.
But they are phatter
looks like there are concerns about the N&W Y6b what if the review of the Precision Craft Models Reading T-1 4-8-4 Steam Locomotive HO Scale
GTX PM me and I will give you a seller on E-bay I trust. I have used Victor 3 times and has yet to let me down. He has some Y6B’s for $330.00 with sound. The Lok decoder will run on DC or DCC. For DC there is a box you will need to add to your DC system that will work all the sounds plus I think you can set CV’s as well.
My self, I rather buy with the decoder. The decoder listed is around $115.00 from Tony’s Train World with speakers.
As far as power draw it seems to be low, but I added a Blower to the DCC system (DCC 8 AMP Booster) so I have plenty of power.
One really cool thing is with the lok Decoder the fire box flickers! Pretty sweet when running at night.

Did you get one? Can you rcommend where to get one? I have not found very many for sale.
I hope you got the PM.
On the Class A by Blue Line. After reading the ad I saw 2 things that is driffrent than my Y6
1 No traction tires on the PCM Y6
2 PCM will take a 18" turn while the Blue Line Ad said 22".
Like I said in the PM call Bob at BLI for more details.

Hey I got one! I posted some pics for all to enjoy. Sorry my layout is not finished yet so there is a lack of detail.
Darn, but that looks sweet. And I have to wait until Christmas morning for mine. Aaaaargghhh!!
Seems we have some of the same engines and bulidings. what number is your class J? Mine is 611.
Well what do you think of it? I have mine at a real slow speed right now draging 45 cars up a grade and still cannot belive it does not stall out. Just took 10 seconds for 34’ hopper to pass a tree.
I was thinking I needed another one![:D] But at this point I have yet to find a reason I need a helper.
