Broadway loco's finally here.

Hey guys my loco’s have finally arrived (nearly three weeks)
They all run fine and are nice and quiet, except the 2-8-2 light runs a bit jerky like one of the wheels is not round.

I’ve checked for lubrication and all seems ok, any suggestions or does it need running in?

My current roster.

Is it doing this at all speeds, forward and reverse, on the straights and the curves, in both directions? Does the front end hunt going around curves? If it doesn’t hunt, and if it’s mostly a slow speed thing, I would run it for awhile, forward and reverse, before pursuing a fix. Mine was jerky in reverse at slow speed at first. Too late now, but it’ll break in faster without lubing it (I can hear the howls now, but it’s true). On mine though, I think it was the motor commutator; like it was run in a little in one direction only at some speed. Works fine now. I always run mine a little with no lube and assess the situation before proceeding.

It seems worse at low speeds in both directions and on the straights and curves (all the time I guess) I’ll run it for a bit and see what happens.

My Class A ran a little jerky at first, but it settled down quickly and now runs very smooth. Nice roster that you have there. When I get there in a couple of weeks I was going to bring you one more. I have an old Mantua/Tyco 4-6-2 Pacific ( I actually have two) that I thought you would like. It runs well, but probably needs to be remotored for DCC. I have no idea what the stall current is on the factory motor. We arrive in Christchurch on the 19th. We are still working out the details on our hotel for the first two days. I should know where by tomorrow.

Ken–nice roster, by the way. On the BLI–did you lightly oil the rods and eccentric gear? I’ve found that with my BLI’s it’s practically a must, especially the Heavy 2-8-2. Just VERY lightly on the eccentric gear. My 2-8-2 was just a little jerky when I got it, until the owner of my LHS suggested I use some LaBelle light oil. With about an hour of running, the loco settled down and now runs like a Swiss watch.

Thanks Tom I’ll try that too, when she’s running past slowly the rear end appears to rise and fall with the rotation of the driver wheels.
I had considered running her upsidedown with some clippy leads on the tender pickups to see if one of the wheels is buckled or out of round.
