I’m curious to hear how folks feel about the Hudson in general, and how it compares to later releases by Broadway Ltd. as far as quality and level of detail are concerned. Also, if anyone has one of the newer Hudsons, and owned one of the originals, how do they compare?
I did the $100 trade-in many months ago. With the old J1e, I had many problems (using Digitrax Zephyr). My new one seems to be error-free. In between I did some rewiring and track fixes. Not 100% sure if the new electrical features like a split frame did it.
Sound seems the same. However, I am very glad I did the trade-in because of the headlight color and ease of adjusting the volume.
How does the level of detail compare to the latest releases by Broadway?
I am also interested in the newer Hudsons. Several posters on this forum have reported tracking problems with the earlier models. It seems they want to rock fore or aft, lifting some of the drivers from the rails. Is this still true of the upgraded models, or did BLI fix that?
BTW BLI Hudsons often show up on ebay. You can tell if it is an earlier run if the BLI model number is in the 020 series. Newer ones are in the 060 - 070 series. It would be easy to get burned, thinking you were bidding on a new Hudson, only to find you bought a first generation model. Your bid plus the $99 trade-in could cost more than the retail price of the new one. Caveat emptor!
